Teach students the phonetic sounds necessary for reading and spelling competence. Teacher Wordbook 4 provides 50 phonetic word lists. The word lists are used to teach unknown reading and spelling words. The lists cater for the range of student abilities. Activities are differentiated based on student learning needs.
The Beyond Preliminary Phonics 4 Teacher Wordbook comprises 50 phonetic sounds (202-252) and the accompanying word lists. Word lists are used to teach unknown reading and spelling words. Literacy activities accompany the word lists which are available in Student Workbook 4. Students are pretested to highlight unknown reading and spelling words. Students learn their highlighted words. As students are working on the same focus sound whole class and small group teaching also occurs.
The teacher introduces the new sound using games like Sound Bingo and Sound Spotting. All list words are colour coded into their sounds. Words are learnt by focusing on the sounds in words. Not on single letters. Literacy tasks support the learning of the sounds and words. Literacy tasks are explained in workbooks to ensure students can work independently. Suitable for homework activities. Also individual focus tasks with School Services Officers or support teachers. The program has a three tiered approach, whole class, small group and individual intervention.
