What is Beyond Preliminary Phonics?

It is a sequential primary phonics reading and spelling program.

The program is designed to explicitly teach the 252 phonetic sounds during the primary years of schooling.

Beyond Preliminary Phonics is also suitable for secondary students requiring intervention, adult literacy and English Second Language learners.

How is Beyond Preliminary Phonics organised?

Beyond Preliminary Phonics is organised into six grids/levels of  generally 40 phonetic sounds (Initial grid 42 sounds and BPP 4 grid has 50 sounds).

Each year, 40 new phonetic sounds are introduced and explicitly taught.

A new phonetic sound is introduced each week.

There are accompanying teacher wordbooks, student workbooks, grid packs, playing cards (manual) and student sound books.

What are the components of Beyond Preliminary Phonics?

Teacher Resource Wordbooks  – Comprise teacher wordlists for each phonetic sound.

Student Workbooks – Follow-up literacy tasks to support student learning.

Student Sound Books – Individual sound books used to teach students their phonetic sounds. Excellent for intervention tasks and homework practice.

Concentration Playing Cards – To reinforce student learning.

Phonetic Sound Grids – Suitable for practising sounds and games such as sound bingo.

Manual – All relevant teacher information, including follow-up literacy tasks, sound grids, challenging words, rule-breaker words, relevant research and data collection procedures.
