Methodology

The teacher is no longer required to juggle four or five different spelling groups with all students focusing on different sounds. All students will now focus on the same phonetic sound but with differentiation to cater for the range of student abilities.

Beyond Preliminary Phonics will present more than 10,000 words for focus.

The focus is to

  • Teach students the 252 phonetic sounds needed for spelling and reading competence.
  • Help students identify and blend phonetic sounds when learning new words.
  • Focus on learning the sounds within words rather than by single letters.
  • Use phonetic word lists for teaching reading and spelling.
  • Use Student Workbook  literacy tasks to reinforce learning.
  • Use Sound books to support acquisition of the phonetic sounds.
